So today is April 1st aka April Fools Day. I used to think this was such a cool holiday as a kid, and then I grew up. What is it about this day that makes adults think they can do the most retarded and absurd things and have it be funny? Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy humor and jokes, but some of the stuff done in the name of April Fools Day just boggles my mind.
For example, Saturday nights is my anime night. There is a block of anime I watch on Adult Swim from 11pm to 1am (Bleach, Blood +, Eureka 7 and Samurai Champloo). My husband even reminds me about it if it’s getting close to 11 and I haven’t come downstairs when I’m on the computer. Those are really about the only TV shows I care about for myself, outside the few things I watch with/for him. So when he called me downstairs and I turned on my shows, it was about 10:45 or so, halfway through the Boondocks. That was on as normal, but when some stupid “New Perfect Hair” crap show came on, I thought it was another advert for one of Cartoon Network’s (CN) stupid new shows. It wasn’t. That garbage was shown (apparently in backwards order according to some posts I read afterwards - this was really a show?) for the entire block of shows that I watch.
Granted, Adult Swim ([as]) repeats shows the same evening, so theoretically I should be able to see them for real since I set the DVR, but I should have had to. It wasn’t that funny to me, and I wonder how funny the other regular viewers thought it was? I read somewhere that CN said showing anime wasn’t profitable for them, but they did it anyways. I wonder if it’s because they give it crappy showtimes and try to overwhelm you with insulting garbage shows instead. Sorry, Saul of the Mole Men and Tom and Eric’s Amazing Show Great Job (or whatever the hell it’s name is) are both just plain bad, IMO. I’m not sure how anyone can watch them. Sometimes cheap humor works, sometimes it doesn’t.
So I missed watching my animes last night because of some silly joke day, and I’m not even sure if the later showings are good or not since we only have one DVR and the husband is watching TV atm. I have to wait until tonight I guess to see for sure. In the meantime, I’ll be writing some fanfics I’ve got to work on. One is a FMA gift fic for the transmute_fluff community over on LiveJournal. I’ve had over a month to get mine done (and it’s not due until the 12th) but when I signed up for the exchange, I was really starting to get into Bleach a lot more and now I’m on a serious Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex kick. I have to get my brain wrapped around the FMA world again to get this done.
The idea of what I wanted to write has been percolating in my head for the past week or so, but I haven’t been able to play it out in my mind yet. That’s one of the ways I write stuff - I playact it out in my mind and get the conversations and actions/reactions down right before putting it into text. When I have trouble translating the head stuff to text is where things get hung up, which is where I am on several in-progress fics I have. It gets harder when my attention span (aka inner fangirl) gets distracted by something else and I have to pull myself back into a world to write about it. And I still have the ideas for the previous fics in there but they are dormant for now. Ah well, as soon as the next paycheck comes, I’ll definitely be back on an FMA kick for a bit since I’m going to get the last five DVD volumes and complete my collection. Non-stop FMA episodes - all the way through!
And now I’m off to write!
